I think it's important that Emma is a teacher first and a superhero second. I doubt she'd have anything to do with the X-Men if they didn't run a school. And teachers are always busy.
I hope I did a good enough job of introducing X-23. You may not need to know who she is for another 7 years (in timeline), but theoretically she will have a semi-major part to play in my... utter lack of plot.
