I think I'm in that category that just hasn't commented at all lately, so sorry about that.

Goddamn, Emma. Is it wrong that I like her being like that towards Emily? I mean, it's not ideal relationship material, but... yeah. And good on Emily for not being intimidated - I think I once read a post in which you were talking about the possibility of Emily/Emma, and said "Emily will not back down to dominant bitches like her mother", so that came to my mind just now.

The parallels you've drawn between Emily and her mother are so true. At times I think you're a bit excessively harsh in depicting her mother - she was cold, definitely (if Matthew was the only one that made Emily feel worthy of love), but judging by their interaction in Honor Among Thieves she's more pragmatically cold, almost aloof, rather than this twisted woman Emily sometimes thinks of her as. But yeah, good parallel. Also love that moment between Emily and Tony - he knows what he's saying, which is more or less what Emma was trying to impress upon Emily, but less bitchy.

I suspect Emily is going to spend a LOT of her life ruminating on the pros and cons of continuing with this 'push and pull'.

I'm not sure if this line should end in a question mark or not, but I think it should: 'She had tried to help Emily, but how do you help someone who will tell a room of powerful men that they are no better than criminals, and it is her duty to arrest them.'

Erm, I should mention this to you now: politics make my head spin. Not an Emily-like hatred, just that I lack the intellectual capacity to comprehend that sort of stuff. That's not really a comment on your story I suppose, but then it IS the backdrop/plot (I don't know how something manages to be the backdrop and plot and still leave most of us focusing on the relationship, but there you go), so sometimes I got a slight headache.

But apart from that: awesome read so far. Can't wait for the next part.
