In my head the only reason they're friends is because they're both too narcissistic to have anyone else. And they both secretly (except not really secretly at all) think the other is a complete moron. Almost like they tolerate each other because each one feels the other makes them look like a better person.

And, you know, that's how all the best friendships go. :P
