Pitch Perfect

So, can someone explain this movie to me.  I know I read fic before I saw the movie, so my expectations were skewed.  But I tried very hard to stay open minded and see how they were going to pull it off.  But WTF?  Who wrote the romance in this?

It takes one hour and eighteen minutes before Beca shows any reaction to Jesse that isn't incredulity/horror.  And then he's an utter douchenozzle to her.

What makes the first hour and 18 minutes even more horrifying is its plausibility.  It brings me back to one summer, working in a library, where the guy shelving books downstairs kept talking to me.  And he wasn't awful, or anything, so I gave him my phone number, only realizing TOO LATE that his asking for my phone number meant he might want to ask me out.  And this was a HELL NO.  But he was nice.  And he wanted to be a librarian because he enjoyed shelving books.  (OMG).  So I didn't want to blast him out.  (Then there were the hilarious two 'dates.'  One which I dragged my cousin on as chaperone, and the second which ended with me rhapsodizing about Emma Frost, because he wasn't getting the hint.  I think Emma Frost managed to give him the hint.  Not into dudes. OK?)

And this was EXACTLY what Jesse was doing - not taking a hint.  But Jesse was even worse!  He was pushy and clearly assumed that because he wants her so bad, he deserves her.  (hello, rape whistle.)  And the worst bast was her falling for his bullshit.  "I care about you."  She didn't want him to care about her.  She put up with it.  What she wanted was the Bellas back.  And she got it.  And then she was proven right about movie endings.  They really are predictable. :)

So, I really kind of enjoyed that movie. :D

honestly, I'm just in it for the Anna Kendrick and the singing. I thought Jesse was being a Nice Guy (tm) who then got mad that Beca saw him more as a friend.

also, the main pairing for the fandom really is Beca/Chloe, not Beca/Jesse :)

Oh, that was a great movie. But clearly, you have not seen it as you should. Yes the official romance was horrible, but that's because it's a coverup. Everybody knows the true romance in that story was the love triangle between Beca/Chloe/Aubrey, which should be resolved in an OT3. See here: http://archiveofourown.org/users/cdybedahl/pseuds/cdybedahl/works?fandom_id=588513
Although, really, just browse through AO3, I'm pretty sure the majority of works are Beca/Chloe.

Oh no, you're totally right. If there was actually a well-done romance storyline it was ALL Beca/Chloe with Aubrey for drama. We could even do a careful analysis of Beca's face: with Jesse - oh god, you're horrifying me, please leave me alone. With Chloe - oh god, you're horrifying me, but I kind of like you, don't leave.

I'm usually prepared for shippable movies to have a reasonably plausible romance that annoys me a bit, but this one was like, nope, she really hates him. THERE IS NOTHING PLAUSIBLE ABOUT THIS. Gilligankane's Song Beneath the Song is now canon in my head.

But Triple Treble is awesome too. :)

I actually did this, and more so for Chloe and Aubrey. If you follow their faces while they sing... it all suddenly becomes clear.

My canon for Pitch Perfect are cdybedahl's stories...whether the Beca/Chloe ones or Triple Treble. I'm hoping she writes a third part for The Consequences of Inebriation, where Aubrey joins with Chloe and Beca.

While I agree with you on the fact that I never understood why Beca had to kiss Jesse, when there was no chemistry between them.
I saw it first, because of the Beca/Chloe shower scene and the singing, now I just have the movie because is you forget the predictable ending, I must say I really liked it, and the Amy character was really fun.

Ah, Pitch Perfect... I love this movie a lot more than it deserves.

It all started with a random purchase. I had one remaining Christmas gift certificate, and I'd heard about this silly movie that had singing in it, and maybe lesbians (this wasn't conclusive). I decided that I'd buy it as a reward for my decision to never watch Glee ever again. I figured that I'd watch Pitch Perfect when nobody was around, and if it was awful, I'd just never mention it again. There weren't any adorable, snarky, Hispanic lesbians that the hack-ish writers could use to break my heart, so I should be fine either way.

I kind of liked Jesse. Having said that, I didn't think the romance made *any* sense and that the kiss comes from absolutely nowhere... I also think that's it's quite a shame that they didn't decide to actually make a film where the male and female leads end up deciding that they're good as friends (the closest to this that I can remember seeing is actually Constantine...).

But yeah, other than that, Fat Amy is awesomeness, and I reacted with a certain horrified awe when witnessing the puke angel.
