My Year in Fanfic 2011

My year in Fanfic 2011 - (I totally was planning on not doing this - too grumpy to try - but I gave in.)

So, this year was the year of trying to be a published author and a linguist, at the same time!  i.e. the year of not writing any fic.  Sorry.

Possibly the most exciting and validating thing to happen to me this year was winning the CM Rare Pair Femslash Romance award - Here, for The Charity Auction.  Thanks everyone!

Also, getting my first request for a full manuscript, (The rejection was not as exciting), and getting an out of the nowhere personalized and very kind rejection on a partial where the query had already been rejected six months before (just strange).  Also, getting accepted to publish my article on Fandom Pairing Names in a journal!  (But now I have to write it, OMG.)

Also, if you're wondering where I hang out online when I'm not here, I have a writing blog, where I review books and think about editing and why I hate paranormal romance in a very serious way.  There is very little porn.  However, I did post a picture that I found which is incredibly perfect for Mermadia Falcon!  Check it out!

My Year in Fanfic 2010

My Year in Fanfic 2010!

This year was the year of Finishing Things You Start!  I finished Bicker, and Hellfire, and Volume II of Emily's Notebooks, Even Fake Empire has technically reached the point where I can start the next storyline (although I might need one more fic to fill in the middle bit).  I even extra-finished Scott's Emma, and posted the second half of Chelsea Hotel.  I only started two fics I didn't finish (maybe 3, if you count the LotS one), (still amazing compared to last year, where I started 9 fics I didn't finish.)  And I wrote two complete long multi-part fics, both which were posted in a consistent and timely manner!  How shocking!

 

I also had a weird discussion about Mermaid sex, which spawned a crackfic of awesome and made my first Podfic!  My First Podfic  (I'd swear I don't sound like that at all!)  Other awesome things: Dragon Pr0n!  (you know who you are), and finally someone else writing (and posting) Emma/Emily (Thank you [livejournal.com profile] tamoline !).  I have been gifted a few snippets which have made me happy, (the lycanthropy one was sooo awesome) but I am no longer posting alone in a bitter Jemily world!

In other news, the first semester of grad school went off pretty well.  I learned a lot about Old Irish, and wrote two massive papers on it.  And I want to thank everyone who helped me out when I was really frustrated with my novel.  It's now around 450 pages, and I'm nearing the end (nearing) of this last phase of revisions.  It's kind of astonishing that I picked it up at the beginning of this year at about 60 pages, a female MC, and a bare outline mainly cribbed from random nightmares.

 

And expect chapter 2 of Sweet Talk 101 tomorrow.  I'm chasing out the kinks in the plot tonight.
