My Year in Fanfic 2010!

This year was the year of Finishing Things You Start!  I finished Bicker, and Hellfire, and Volume II of Emily's Notebooks, Even Fake Empire has technically reached the point where I can start the next storyline (although I might need one more fic to fill in the middle bit).  I even extra-finished Scott's Emma, and posted the second half of Chelsea Hotel.  I only started two fics I didn't finish (maybe 3, if you count the LotS one), (still amazing compared to last year, where I started 9 fics I didn't finish.)  And I wrote two complete long multi-part fics, both which were posted in a consistent and timely manner!  How shocking!

I also had a weird discussion about Mermaid sex, which spawned a crackfic of awesome and made my first Podfic!  My First Podfic  (I'd swear I don't sound like that at all!)  Other awesome things: Dragon Pr0n!  (you know who you are), and finally someone else writing (and posting) Emma/Emily (Thank you [livejournal.com profile] tamoline !).  I have been gifted a few snippets which have made me happy, (the lycanthropy one was sooo awesome) but I am no longer posting alone in a bitter Jemily world!

Emma/Emily

M-Day - This is a pretty great bit of fic, but since I wrote it ages ago, I really don't think it counts for this year.

What Happened in Vegas - I'm still considering a sequel for this, hmmm....

Considering Virgins - Oh yeah, this was the year I got into Supernatural, wasn't it?

Draco's Chair - You know, I just listened to the whole 8 hours of this fic that inspired this on my trip home, and it is still so awesome and brilliant.  I'm considering doing an E2 rewrite.  Dub-con alley sex, it's right up my, um, alley.

5 3 (of the) times Emma and Emily have sex are inappropriately affectionate in public - I think I was in a slump here.

The Charity Auction - Yay for stealing Emily/JJ kink meme prompts and turning them into E2!!!

Mermadia Falcon - This.  Babysitting is dangerous.

Captive - I still haven't adjusted to this one yet.

Quantico 12-23 - Um.

Game of Love - more slump collage fic!  (no, not so good)

Lycanthropy - Finishing things you start win!  I was so unsure about this in the beginning, but it has stood the test of time!  This fic is awesome!

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Part 6

Danny Zuko was a Hot Chick - My favorite thing this year.  Winning the Citrus Taste Summer Battle, and making my summer awesome, and slightly panicky.

Incomplete

Peace Studies - I don't actually have a plot for this.  I promise nothing.

Opening Salvos

Field Operations

The Snakestone Jewel (version 1 of chapter 1) - Still planning on finishing this, just... slowly.

Chapter 1

Chapter 2

Chapter 3

Updates

City on the River: Somehow, I made much progress, and yet am going nowhere fast.  But it's still going.

Chapter 10

Chapter 11

Chapter 12

Chapter 13

Chapter 14

Chapter 15 - part 1

Chapter 15 - part 2

Fake Empire: I made it to Christmas!  Finally!

Fake Empire 9 (Back to Work)

Fake Empire 10 (Visitors)

Fake Empire 11 (Jubilee)

Christmas Spectacular

Bicker: This fic... I have forgotten how utterly brilliant it was, and utterly pornographic.  Ah, memories of undergrad.

Part 5

Part 6

Part 7

Part 8

Part 9

Hellfire: Dude, finishing things!  Now if I could just get my ass in gear and write Asylum.

Part 6

Part 7

Part 8

Part 9

Part 10

Part 11

Part 12

Part 10.5 (The Smutty Bit)

Emily's NotebooksMercy - This is probably going to stay the end unless I get really inspired.  I can't fake this one.  All in all, I think it's one of the best fics I've ever written.

Scott's Emma 5: Sins of Wrath - Yeah, this was called, hmm, I wonder if I can write that sex position.

Chelsea Hotel No. 2 - kind of crappy, but the story wraps up okay.

Fanmixes

Never Dreamed at All - City on the River - I still like about half of it.  I think it could have been a much tighter EP, but more music is better, right?

No More 3am Phonecalls - Hellfire - so sad.  I think it's a pretty good mix though.  And it matches my feelings about the story.  Srsly, all that agony for this?

Little Miss Evil - An Emma Frost Fanmix - oh my!  A character mix!  How unprecedented!

A Story to Tell Your Friends- Danny Zuko - I've been adding to and changing this one, but the core is the same.  It's a great mix, particularly for cooking.

Not Emma/Emily

X-Men

Emma Frost(Scott Summers)/Betsy Braddock

A Wolf in Scott's Clothing - Why do I write such creepy porn?  Someone asked me on this one why my girl/girl was never as hardcore as when there was a cock involved.  I think it's a process of development.  I'm seeing if I can fix that now.

Babysitters' Club

Stacey McGill/Charlotte Johanssen

This is not Babysitting - This made me happy.  I always read Kben's stories with this pairing, and loved them dearly, and it was really nice to write it without totally screwing up the characters, I think.

The Hollows

Rachel/Ivy

Rachel's Confession - Again with the creepy porn.  And Rachel was annoying me.

Legend of the Seeker

All the King's Men - And in writing this I was revealed as a complete poser in the LotS fandom.  Why am I still there?

High D'Haran Love Poetry: Basically, I got sick of Berdine and Raina being treated as horses of all work in this fandom.  They deserve their own origin story, and characterization, and snarky dialogue.  I will get back to it soon, I promise.

Poem 51

Poem 2b

Poem 92

A Room with a View

The Influence of Italy - I wrote this near the end of a 8 hour bus trip.  I take no responsibility for its shittiness.

01. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

Well, I really didn't predict how much I would write, and I think I wrote maybe half as much as I did last year, but I also started grad school and began seriously working on my novel again, so... probably more than I would have predicted.

02. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?

Um, Legend of the Seeker?  Well, probably the real answer is that I totally never suspected I'd write a fusion inspired by Barbie's Mermadia.  Never in a thousand years.

03. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?

I really spent a lot of the year just updating things and trying to finish things, but I think one of my favorite and most satisfying stories is Lycanthropy, which is sexy and funny and dramatic, and COHERENT, to a certain extent.  And done.  Done is beautiful.

04. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

Promising to post a fic every other day for a month was a HUGE RISK, and I learned that I am awesome, and can totally produce mildly funny smut on demand if I have great characters and great prompts.

05. Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?

Same as last year: Get published!  For fanfic… I'd like to write a few more stories like Lycanthropy, stories that are long enough to be satisfying and entirely complete, not endless ever changing sagas.

06. From my past year of writing, what was...

My Best Story:

I think I have to go with Danny Zuko is a Hot Chick, because for something that was written as a serial based on a set of smutty prompts, it is incredibly coherent and has a great plot, and I can just read it over and over again.

M-Day is pretty awesome, but since I really didn't write it this year I don't think it ought to be in contention.  And so was This is not Babysitting, I just felt driven and calm while writing it, and pulled it off.

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:

High D'Haran Love Poetry part 3.  I need support here or I stop working on things!  I have a bunch more written, but I need people to tell me to get down to work!

Story Most Surprisingly appreciated by the Universe:

Probably Game of Love, since it was just me going, dammit, what am I supposed to do with all these disconnected scenes?  And then trying to put them together in a plot.

Most Fun

Danny Zuko's taking this one too.  But Mermadia Falcon was pretty damn fun.

Most Disappointing:

The Snakestone Jewel.  I really like the idea and I really want to write it, but it just gives me hives.

Most Sexy:  Bicker!  The end of Bicker is all porn, and yet it finishes everything it started out to do!

Hardest to Write: City on the River Chapter 15, parts 1 and 2.  Oh my god, trying to get words on the page.  I worked on it during class, and instead of homework, and it was still, so, hard.  But I was kind of happy with it at the end, so that's what counts.

Most Unintentionally Telling:

Maybe there was a little too much angry sex this year.  I probably shouldn't take my frustrations out on my characters.  Poor Rachel.

So, what do other people think fit the bill for...

Best Story

Most Fun

Most Disappointing

Most Sexy

Most Unintentionally Telling?

In other news, the first semester of grad school went off pretty well.  I learned a lot about Old Irish, and wrote two massive papers on it.  And I want to thank everyone who helped me out when I was really frustrated with my novel.  It's now around 450 pages, and I'm nearing the end (nearing) of this last phase of revisions.  It's kind of astonishing that I picked it up at the beginning of this year at about 60 pages, a female MC, and a bare outline mainly cribbed from random nightmares.

And expect chapter 2 of Sweet Talk 101 tomorrow.  I'm chasing out the kinks in the plot tonight.

You're pretty much my hero. You've made Emma/Emily cannon in my eyes and the idea of her shipping with any other character is odd in comparison. I don't know how you do what you do. To be immersed in Grad school and write fanfic and write your own novel and write such incredibly stirring pieces and ... well, that list is just endless. It is as though you've found some means of dilating time. I've indiscriminately loved all of your work and look forward to reading more in the new year. Thank you so much for being such an amazing and dedicated writer.

LOL! Yeah, I see that shout out! XD Woot for dragon pr0n! You know you love it though! I take great pride in knowing that I have now ruined you for life with my special pairing and all their lovely, uh, specialness!

But, dude, I am so jealous of your writing skills! You haven't missed a step at all this year despite the workload you had, nevermind the one or two fics you didn't finish. Me? You already knew the type of schedule I had this semester, and I'd have considered myself lucky if I managed to get drabbles out to you every month or so! @_@ Even then, I probably only got out about half a dozen sets of varying length! I can't compete with your awesomeness, so kudos to you, my friend! You deserve praise and so much more!

As for my picks, I pretty agree with what you've already chosen from the above categories although my choice for Most Unintentionally Telling would be the one fic that no one else has seen yet (and probably never will from what I recall you telling me). XP I mean, for a story that didn't delve too much into the backgrounds of the characters and how they came to be, the connection between them both was so striking that I couldn't help but be drawn in. It's definitely one of my favorite one-shots (and I'm still very honored that you offered to share it with me. I shall worship you 4EVAR!!1!)!

Ah, and isn't it your birthday today? <.< Don't deny it! It is, isn't it?! My LJ Friend Updates tell me so! XP

Gah, now I feel bad that I don't have drabbles for you yet. They're saved on my flash drive, which I... kinda forgot back at home. I'm actually out of town at the moment for this family reunion thing, and it kinda slipped my mind when I started packing. *bangs head on keyboard* God, I was almost done with them too!

No worries! I'll send them to you once I get back to town in a couple of days, and then they can be like a belated birthday present from a very absent-minded writer of dragon pr0n! Yes? Yes. *grins*

...Yes, I know I suck so hard right now.

Captive obviously has to get my award for being thought provoking (not one of the official categories, but hey), given that it pretty much forced me to write my first ever fanfic. Which, in turn, has inspired me to write my longest ever story. (Currently being finished off now, and thankfully several times more upbeat.)

I think Danny Zuko was probably my favourite story out of this year generally. It's a mostly upbeat story and nice character piece.

I've never seen a full episode of Criminal Minds, so it isn't about the pairing as I don't know one of the characters very well. The point is that your characters are original. I like your stories because they're yours and you know them very well. All stories that you've written gather my interest (although I recall "City on the Water" as taking a while for me to get into it).
I'm glad that school is going well and assuming Livejournal is correct then I hope you had a great birthday.
If you do complete a full length novel, please share info on how one could go about reading it :)

Thanks for all the awesome stories that you've shared!
