It wasn’t fair. Emma shouldn’t have had to lose more children. She shouldn’t have had to watch one of her favorite students sacrifice herself for the greater good. A hero was only a hero to a stranger. To someone who knew her, it would always be a tragedy.

It had taken a long time, but now, somehow Emma just fit into her arms. Emily slid in behind her, wrapping her arms around her waist and resting her head on her shoulder.

“I don’t want to teach there anymore. I thought they were luckier, but if they can’t protect their children any better…” Emma buried her face into Emily’s shoulder. “I don’t want to teach anymore.”

“Shhh,” Emily cuddled her and brought her down to the bed. “I don’t think you mean that.”

“I don’t want to lose them!” Tears glistened like diamonds in her eyes. Emily caressed her face and pressed her lips lightly against Emma’s. “I don’t want to lose you,” Emma said at a whisper.

“Love us now,” Emily murmured. “Love us while we’re here.”
