Soo, guess who won the CM Rare Pair Femslash Romance award - Here.

!!!

Thank you, everyone who voted for me!  You are awesome!
Especially because I'm a lazy bum who has been completely divorced from fandom for the past two months.  In other news, because there are about forty seven other things that I need to be doing, I've started working on a new E2 fic, inspired both by the random spy conversation, and one of the awesome prompts from the mini-kink meme, although it may not be what anyone expected, and is clearly going to be at least 10,000 words.  But if I start doing what people expect now, clearly I will have no resemblance to myself anymore.
I may be looking for a beta reader in a few weeks, preferably one with some familiarity with, uh, WW1.
If anyone wants to write any of the kink meme prompts, please do, I want to read them!

Also, if anyone else has been feeling a tragic dearth of awesome plots and kick-ass female characters, read this:
Lust over Pendle
Nominally Draco/Neville, but in actuality Reader/Narcissa, at least for me.  Honestly, it took my completely unfounded and slightly embarrassing crush on Narcissa Malfoy and made it entirely full-fledged and defendable and completely desperate.  And I always loved Neville's grandmum, but now I adore her, and um, tiny glimpse of her as a Slytherin Beater, and yeah, just do it.  Unless you have a pressing deadline within the next four hours, you won't regret it.  Really, you won't.

Podfic!!!!

I have made a podfic!!!!  I am pretty sure that i was never meant to be an actor, because voices, they are HARD.  And I probably could have done a better job on this, except I read it twice in the kitchen before my parents got home, and then had to go upstairs, and realized that when I was not in the vicinity of the refrigerator, there was not an irritating squeal, and thus had to do it all over again.

But yay for podfic!

Of course it is Chad fic, but I must say that this was the fic that won me over, and made me realize that yes, Chad is a douche, but he is an entertaining douche, so that's all right.

Title: Four Women (and Jared) Whose Lives Chad Changed Forever
Author[livejournal.com profile] wizened_cynic
Reader: Alsike
Fandom: CWRPF, guest starring Alex Cabot
Rating: R, for asshattery
Summary: Chad... yeah, that's it.

So, me reading podfics...  Good idea or bad?  Should I retire the mike, never do it again?  Should I do one of mine?  If so, which one?  Any requests?  (Short, please, srsly)

Yay!  X-men has its own sexy new page on P&P!  (Really, that header is awesome.)  And Emily's Notebooks is up!  In its beautifully embarrassing completeness.  There is something rather coy about the length of an LJ post that you lose when you have the whole things just sitting there with bolded chapter headings.  Why is my own writing so embarrassing to me?

My drawing is generally worse, but whatever.  This post should take up more space, and thus City on the River inspired doodlings again.  (I totally drew the picture of Emma as a stripper in my Syntax notebook and now, when I'm hunting for PredP or whatever it ALWAYS opens to that page!)

Eventually I will suck less at photoshop.  Not yet though.

And if you're bored, Wycynic has written a bunch of hilarious prompt fics.  Go read them.

Edited for ADD:

And ralst has said that she's going to start hosting podfics!  I love podfics!  They are the best thing since... um, lightboxes (this made sense in my head).  Sooo, people with good reading voices and recording equipment... Please?  Supernatural Fanfic is perfectly fine but not every podfic should be boyslash.

So, it's pretty clear that babysitting is a vastly traumatizing experience.  I've started to... enjoy playing Barbies.  But I have the one I like, who is called Devin, and a plumber, with mad awesome cowboy boots and socks.  And that was way too much information.

Note to self: six year olds should not be allowed to watch Lady Gaga videos.

But today!  Oh, Today!  We watched the Barbie movie Mermadia.

First of all, the etymology of the word mermadia, is so puzzling to me that it makes me want to cry.  I mean, fine, Mermaid plus the greek-type 'ia' ending like in Alexandria, but still.  Why does that sound like some sort of weird disease?  A fungal infection?

Anyways, the real point is that Elina and Nori had clearly massive subtext potential.  Let's build friendship, teamwork and trust!  yay!  And then Elina gets a tail (she was a fairy before), and Nori looks at her and is like "OMG, you're so-"  and Elina cuts her off before she can say "f*ing hot" with a tail, which is vastly disappointing.  And (this is probably a Spoiler Warning, but seriously, Mermadia) there is about a thirty second period where Elina realizes that she will have to stay as a mermaid forever and never regain her wings!  She despairs.  And it was the perfect opportunity for Nori to jump in and say, "I know it sucks, but I'm going to show you all the good things that come with a tail," wink, nudge...

And then I hit a roadblock, because there is a very big problem with mermaid sex.
How does it work?  If they're just fish on that half, with that sort of system, then it can't have anything to do with reproduction, but if they're mammals?  Has anyone read some good, scientifically plausible mermaid pr0n?

Is this a really stupid question?

This is why I hardly ever write personal posts.  I am *so* weird.  *bangs head on wall*
But all in all, Mermadia was not that bad a movie.  Hilariously awful at times, and illogical and pointless, but it had its moments.

I was moping about, being generally unimpressed with life, and then checked wycynic's journal and realized that I had forgotten about yuletide!  There was indeed quite a bit of not very good stuff, but then there were the astonishing things.  And thus, recs:

Astonishing:

Fandom: I Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith
The Account Book – Perfect, and full of so many precise gorgeous details. It feels like you’re back in that world.  I didn't realize how much I missed it until I got to the bit about Topaz...

Fandom: In This House of Brede, Rumer Godden
Journeys – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this. I loved the book, and the tale told is in that same slow contemplative productive vein. It was beautiful.

Cute:

Fandom: Howl’s Moving Castle Series, Diana Wynne Jones
Five Domestic Moments - Cute.  I always felt that Sophie and Howl were such an improbable couple.  They remain improbable in this.

Cave Canem - Lovely.  The last line makes it.  The vision of the adult Charmaine is so much like me, and it's important not to be bullied by people who don't understand books.

Fandom: Imagine Me & You
Dandelion – I started this and was like, “oh! Good, someone else has written the pair to my Red Poppies, which I never got around to.” But it was better. The author has gotten Rachel, and her slightly apologetic selfishness, perfectly right. The end of the movie was shmoopy and romantic, but there was a tangled web of pain and misery that still needed to be dealt with. This one makes it cute.

All canon ships!  How odd!  If you can really call them ships, since the only one that's really romantic is Dandelion, and that's rather the least of the bunch.

I feel like drowning in a bit of Dodie Smith or Rumer Godden for a while.  *sighs*
