So I was having a rather blah day, decided to check your journal on a whim, not at all expecting an update, when... OMG. An update! Day = suddenly brighter.
Love that Emma is 'too bright and crisp' for their environment (perfect mental image), love them skirting around Jean, love their wicked banter and the bitter edge to their flirting. Love your ability to shift from caustic posturing to utmost vulnerability at a moment's notice. Love, above all, this line:
Emma had been a life raft, and when you look at a life raft you don’t remember almost drowning, you remember being saved.
Yes. Yes! Wow. I actually had to pause and marvel at that metaphor. How absolutely revelatory, how absolutely true.
Also: don't mind the tense philosophical debate at all, especially not when it does so much to flesh out their respective modes of understanding the world and their reactions to each other during/in the wake of it are so thoroughly spot-on. Emily's depression and feelings of uselessness post-debate turning into blatant physical need, her mental petulance demanding Emma's attention...
I love what you're doing with their telepathic bond, how Emily is slowly learning to navigate her end.
(It's also insanely hot, watching them toy with each other. But, uh, how could it not be? So glad Emma decided against keeping her room...)
