Your knack for weaving these two worlds together keeps blowing me away. I'm just constantly in awe. *sigh*
The Emma/Storm interaction is fantastic, and I love the déjà-vu this creates for Emma, the way that digging for bodies spurs talk of Emily and the single-mindedness with which Emma reacts to Ororo's news. I love that their rescue effort appears on Emily's tv screen.
The scene in the hospital room and Emily's section following are really too good for words. Their dialogue, their physical interaction, the way it all comes crashing to a halt and Emma can't take the sight of Emily's blood, can't handle the brunt of her mental anguish, can't do anything at all but stumble to one side and then leave the room...
Do I want them to just run into each other's arms? Well, yeah, of course. Do I prefer what you've written, exactly the way you've written it? Yes x 1000. I'm clutching my chest, this is so good.
But there was nothing else that could describe something so imperfect, so worthless, so damaged.
THIS. Augh. You absolutely slay me.
Last lines are perfectly heart-wrenching. Can barely stand the prospect of waiting for more...
