To me it doesn't seem particularly disjointed; it is following a timeline quite closely, even if the sections are tonally different. Although I think that bringing up that JJ was Didi's personal slave might have made an excellent endpoint!
I find it a bit strange that Emily is quite together when in X-man land (at least with handling the X-men), but then completely useless back home.
I also thought that the "She does what she ought rather than what she wants to do" bits were ... bittersweet, especially that Emily chose not to call Emma out on it, by phoning up.
Incidentally, there's a small typo on the 'She' after "Well?" near the beginning.
