Title: Fake Empire: Rhiannon Epilogue
Pairing: Emma/Emily
Fandom: X-Men/Criminal Minds
Rating: still PG-13.
Universe: Fake Empire
Apologies:  There were definitely a few things that needed wrapping up in this, and I went on a nice meandering bike ride and managed to come up with some of them.  The whole - worst pregnancy ever - stuff was making me miserable (If you want really good miserable lesbian pregnancy stuff, go here [livejournal.com profile] bun_in_oven.) so this, I hope, is more upbeat.

Emma spent weeks being angry and bored before she decided that she hated being bored and started writing an article for a psych journal.  At least now she was productively angry, and Emily found it entertaining to hear her rant about “idiots who thought Freud and Jung were some kind of facts!”

You could only be miserable for so long before you started hating being miserable more than you hated what was making you miserable.

And she was sleeping with Emily now, which meant she wasn’t in such a terrible mood all the time.

Still, she blew up frequently.  And when she was getting upset, Emily would find herself getting twitchy and on edge as well, even if they were in different rooms.  Jubilee could sense it coming like a low-pressure electrical storm.  Whenever she suddenly stopped Didi in the middle of an activity and said “Let’s go to the park,” Emily knew she had better get moving or there was going to be a knock-down drag-out fight over something.  (Usually it was actually about Emma really, really wanting coffee.  No real coffee was allowed in the flat, because if anyone even so much as looked at it in front of Emma it was enough to set her off.)  Emily had managed to figure out a list of things to do if the Jubilee barometer started dropping.  Sex was usually the most effective, followed by Didi attacks, footrubs, and decaf.

Emma had also managed to build an intimate relationship with Henry, which made JJ very, very nervous and upset.

“You like kids,” Emily said, settling down next to Emma in the park.  Henry had just run off to play mountain-climber with Didi.

“I like other people’s kids.”

Emily raised an eyebrow.

Emma narrowed her eyes.  “Deirdre isn’t like other children.”

“No,” Emily said, laughing.  “She’s like you.”

“Exactly.”

“Why do you like other people’s kids?”

Emma grinned, glancing at Henry.  “I like messing with other people’s things.  It’s a normal pleasure for people who grew up in rather neurotic multi-child families.  You want your siblings’ toys, but if they’re older than you, you know they’ll just take them back.  So you break them instead.”

“You like… breaking other people’s kids?”

“What do you think teaching is?  Parents send their children to me and give me the opportunity to shape their minds.  And I don’t even have to use telepathy.”

“You’re a terrible person.”

“I know.”

*            *            *

Emma’s head turned, and she caught Emily’s eyes, a faint brush of panic touching her mind.

<< Now? >>

<< It kind of fucking feels like it! >>

“Okay.”  Emily was up and going, the others in the room looked up, confused.  “Jubilee, you stay with Didi, okay?  We’re going to the hospital.”

“You are?”  Jubilee asked.

Emma winced in pain, the pen in her hand shattering into pieces.

“Oh my god.”

“Please.”  Emily scooped up her bag, grabbed Emma’s wrist and hauled her towards the door.

<< You doing okay?”

<< This is going to be over, isn’t it? >>

<< What? >>

Emma actually laughed.  “It’s finally going to be over.  I can deal with pain.  I’m not bloody afraid of that.  But it’s going to be over!”

Emily grinned, hailing a taxi.  She didn’t mention that dealing with an infant wasn’t going to be a picnic either.

*            *            *

“What are you going to name her?”

Emily blinked, staring down at the squashy only semi-human thing in her arms, and felt blank and washed out.  (Apparently they really should give telepaths inhibitor collars while going through childbirth – or just knock them the hell out.  Emily had to run interference to make sure the doctors weren’t incapacitated, and she really, really needed to lie down now.)  “I don’t know.”

Emma turned away and pressed her cheek into the pillow.  “I don’t fucking care,” she grumbled and shut her eyes.

The male nurse looked bewildered.  “You didn’t… discuss it beforehand?”

“No family names,” Emma muttered.  “I hate my family.  And yours.”

“I…”  Emily sank onto the edge of the bed.  “I don’t have any ideas.”

“JJ!” Garcia strode in and grabbed the birth certificate.  “I think this is where we save the day!”

“We do?”  JJ asked worriedly.

“It has to be something that matches Deirdre…”  They disappeared down the hall to the waiting room.  Emily awkwardly gave the baby back to the nurse.  She leaned back and Emma curled into her.

“You’re really going to let them do this?” Emily asked.

“I’ll make sure they don’t pick something atrocious.”  Emma closed her eyes and rested her head on Emily’s shoulder.  “I hate you.”

“You may have mentioned that already today.”

*            *            *

“Rhiannon?”  Emily asked.  She didn’t hate it or anything; it just didn’t mean anything to her.

Emma shrugged.  “She was accused of eating her own child.  It felt… agreeable.”

This line: "You could only be miserable for so long before you started hating being miserable more than you hated what was making you miserable."

It sums up my life pretty well.

I also like breaking other people's things if I can't have them. That probably doesn't say anything good about me.

Thank you for the update. I really hope we get to see more hijinks with the spawn and the parents.

Hurray! My request has been answered. Since this is obviously a good time to make such requests, I want you to finish all the other unfinished fics!

Seriously though, this was an excellent conclusion. I's nice to see Emma getting some control of herself and being productive. The idea of being able to predict her explosions is awesome, and of course Jubilee would have lots of experience in that.

The part about breaking kids was excellent. Everybody knows that's why Emma really became a teacher - it gave her the ability to brainwash the next generation to do as she tells them without actually having to use telepathy, and she actually gets paid for it.

The ending was good. JJ and Garcia to the rescue was quite amusing. At least the meaning of the name is a lot more optimistic than Deirdre, even if Emma is concentrating on the rather negative aspects of the legend. And now the hard part starts. Crying babies, sleepless nights, beast feeding, and so on. Didi being a big sister. No doubt it'll be a hilarious mess. Well, I'll cross my fingers in the hope of seeing it sometime. Can't wait for more!

That was awesome, as per usual.
Leave it to them to name them after Rhiannon and don't find it slightly creepy. Even if she was innocent it still sounds like a bad omen.
I loved Mystique role in your story.
And even thought this story is finished, I really hope to read some future one-shot about this universe.

I finally got the chance to finnish the story and WOW!, you never stop amazing me. XD

I pity Emily, because a pregnant Emma is something I wouldn't wish on anyone, hahaha...The good thing is that now we have another mini Frost-Prentiss/Prentiss-Frost spawn to rain terror on the life of the X-men (thou I think Jean and Logan would enjoy it,maybe also Ororo even thou she wants to kill Emma most of the time, haha).

Can't wait to see what is going to happen in the future, but for now all I can say is Bravo! Please keep posting stories to this amazing pairing. ;-)

P.S: I wish it was you who wrote the X-Men comic's storyline, I hate Emma/Scott.

So glad you're writing again.

I love your Emma/Emily fics. Most of the time I'm not sure these two even like each other but I never doubt that they love each other and that's what this little mini fic showed perfectly.
