Jean gave Emma a harsh look as she came into the kitchen where Emma had been sitting, drinking tea and grading, since 4 in the morning.

“I had a very interesting phone call last night.”

Emma flashed her a harsh tight smile. “I’m sure it was interesting. You don’t have to destroy me though. She dumped me this time. I am… not enough for her.” She laughed, without any humor in it.

Jean cast her a confused sidelong glance. “I suppose I don’t have to destroy you then.”

“No.” Emma turned back to her papers. “It would be redundant.”

* * *

Emily came into the office and settled quietly into the chair. George glanced up and gave a small smile.

“I have a question this time.”

He blinked, surprised at her lack of prevarication. “Go ahead.”

“Is it… sane to have someone who…” She leaned her head against her hand, tipping it forward and letting her loose hair fall in front of her face. “Who you think your life would be meaningless without?”

“Sane?” George sat back in his chair and seemed to be considering it. “I’m not sure I could say it is truly sane, since so many irrational things have been done for it, but it certainly is the most common form of insanity I’ve ever seen.”

sigh. I want more. Can I be specific and say I want part 10.5? I could just imagine it, but I like your imagination much better.

I know it's not over, but I want the details too. :)

Oh, and the "it would be redundant" line? Ouch. That speaks very very loudly. Exceptional.

Awesome, thank you.

If I tell you I've started 10.5... don't get your hopes up too much, because the sex hasn't even started, but there was a little leftover dialogue that needed to be used, so we'll see where it goes. :)

I love the line it is the most common form of insanity I have ever seen. That is so true. When you are in love all forms of sanity and rational thought seem to escape ones being, and all that matters is the person you are in love with. I hate that they aren't together, but it is so typical of them. I just want them to figure this thing out. Please continue with their story line.

I love your pairing of these characters. I didn't know how you were going to make this work but from your first fic 'til now you seemto to make so believeable. I stay up late at night hoping that you post a fic. I like Emily/Emma more than Emily/JJ and those two were my favorite pairings. I must say you are an awesome writer and I look forward to reading more from you.

Thanks

Wow, thank you so much!

I'm very glad the story is believable. And I really wasn't intending on building a catapult to hurl stones at an OTP... all right, i was, I just didn't realize there would be so many stones.

I hope you stay with me, as they continue to (or to not) figure these things out.

Why must it be over when I started to ship this two? Can you please continue it? (although I'll be perfectly happy if you update Bicker. ;) I'm easily pleased - no pun intended).
Great read. Thanks for sharing.

Aww, It's not totally over! There is still plentiful angst for them to suffer through! But maybe Bicker needs a bit of progress first. :)

Thank you!

Redundant insanity that comes packaged in white leather and black power-suits, I like it.

Emma said it best in this chapter when she said, "it would be redundant".

Well...er...Fake Empire, City on the River, Emily's Notebooks? You've created this monster you know.

It is a monster! A hydra, obviously. But I've taken out one head! Now I can tackle another, at least until two grow back in this one's place.

Beautiful ending, even if it's rather sad to see these two apart but it keeps in line with how you wrote them from the start.
I liked how you left an open window for them and us readers as I, oddly, got attached to them.
I'll be happy to read a new part of "the Diamond Universe" if you feel continuing that plot-line but I'm also "eagerly" looking for new chapters of you other stories (City on the River, It's Hard to be a Man, Bicker, ...) and especially your new 18th century one.
Thanks for your excellent work.

Thank you!

I do have a few more stories to tell in the Diamond Universe, but after chasing this one down, I'll probably give them a break and get back to some of the others. Especially the 18th century one!

a little more

Word of mouth! Awesome!

Oh there will be more, at least i don't think I can bear to leave them like this for long! But a nice, sappy, happy ending? Ask me something difficult, why don't you! :)

I like that you left it open ended. I agree with what a lot of the other people are saying- continuing would be awesome, but so would updating your others. lol. I think you've created a monster here. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Any requests?

Thanks for reading!

I find it interesting that the emotional clarity of the last two parts feels almost like a happy ending. I imagine that there is plenty more that these two could go through in this version, and I'm looking forward to where you take City on the River and the 18th century versions, but I think I would actually be okay with this being the ending of this version.

You just want the misery to stop! :)

Don't worry. I'm planning on getting a few other things out before even thinking about the next part of this one.
It was a happy ending, in a way. Both of them had a chance to assert their power and come to terms with something that had been haunting them for a long time. But the other one had to suffer for each success.

But definitely, when I do write the next one (which I will, because there is too much shit that needs to happen to them), their relationship will have to be very different, due to this clarity. That could be fun. But other stuff first!

(grin) Maybe just a little.

I'm sure you have many new and different challenges in store for them, and I'll probably enjoy reading about those as well, when you get there.

wow. I just mainlined the Whole Big Damn Thing (or whatever you called it) last night, and damn, this is amazing. I'm only familiar with the X-Men side of this crossover, really, but since you made Emily Prentiss and all the members of the BAU just come alive it's obvious you know your way around characterization. :D

But, yeah. I feel for both of them right now and how they're both incredibly fucked up - I think I have a kink for fic where the characters are a bit messed up except fighting through it anyway. (Post-apocalyptic fics are win in this category, haha.)

just reread the whole series-so-far for probably the fourth time. wow. it is really an amazing read-- drags you through the full gamut of human emotion, in a fantastically real manner. any chance for another installment in this series? i very much want to see how the gap between where this leaves off and what their relationship is like when didi enters the picture is resolved!

thanks so much!
